Hello, Yarnies!
Three cheers to Nicole! It's her birthday in a few days!
To celebrate, I created these cute little cupcakes, completely dairy-free 😉 Hehehe
I wanted to share the pattern with you so that you too can create your very own vegan, Nicole birthday cupcakes!
Bon appétit!
They are perfect with a cup of Melbourne Breakfast tea, if I do say so myself ;)
You will need:
Yarn:
I used Scheepjes Stonewashed (available here) in the following colours (but you can use whatever you like!):
Abbreviations:
Ch - Chain
Sc - Single Crochet
hdc - Half Double Crochet
dc - Double Crochet
sts - Stitches
tdc – Treble Crochet
Instructions:
Cake:
In the cake colour, work in rounds:
R1: Ch 2, sc 6 in second chain from hook (6 sts)
R2: 2 sc in each st (12 sts)
R3: *Sc 1, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (18 sts)
R4: *Sc 2, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (24 sts)
R5-R6: Sc 24
R7: *Sc 7, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (27 sts)
R8: Sc 27
R9: *Sc 8, 2 sc in next st* 3 times (30 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Set aside for now.
Icing:
In the icing colour, work in rounds:
R1: Ch 2, sc 6 in second chain from hook (6 sts)
R2: 2 sc in each st (12 sts)
R3: *Sc 1, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (18 sts)
R4: *Sc 2, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (24 sts)
R5: *Sc 3, 2 sc in next st* 6 times (30 sts)
R6-R7: Sc 30
R8: In BLO, sc 30
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff both pieces and continue to stuff as we join them together.
Using whip stitches, sew the icing and the cake together. Make sure that R8 of the icing (where you crocheted in BLO) remains free.
We will now work on the dripping icing around the cake.
Turn the cupcake upside down. Using the left-over loops from R8 of the icing, attach the icing colour:
R1: Sc 30
R2: *Sc, hdc, in the next st –> (dc, tdc, dc) then hdc, sc* rep until you reach the end of the round
Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing.
Using the tail, tack down the drippy icing.
Candle:
In the candle colour, work in rounds:
R1: Ch 2, sc 6 in second chain from hook (6 sts)
R2-R5: Sc 6
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the candle onto the top of the icing.
Flame:
In the candle colour, work in rounds:
R1: Ch 2, sc 6 in second chain from hook (6 sts)
R2: Sc, hdc, in the next st –> (dc, tdc, dc), hdc, sc in next two stitches (8 sts)
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Sew the flame onto the top of the candle.
Lastly:
Using small straight stitches, stitch little sprinkles onto the icing.
And you’re all done!
I hope you enjoyed making these quick and easy little cupcakes!
Nicole's pile of prezzies! She is being very good and not opening them until her actual birthday....she has far too much patience!!
Happy Birthday, Nicole!!
