Welcome to Day 3 of the MCAL.

Today we are making a motif and joining it to our other motifs.

Yarn:

Scheepjes Catona, 100% cotton 10g / 25 m x 24 balls. https://www.yarnish.com.au/products/scheepjes-catona

Hook size: 4 mm

Gauge: Motif will measure 10 cm at widest point. 1 x 10 g ball will yield 2 motifs.

Today we will be joining the motifs in more than one place, either sides or points, as decided yesterday. You should also start to be mindful on what your final layout will be –this part of the mystery is now revealed, as we are making a table runner to use on Christmas Day!

Join your motifs in a circular shape for a round table, or in rows for a long runner.

Pattern (as Day 1):

Start with a Magic Ring

Round 1: Ch 2, dc2tog, (ch 2, dc3tog) 5 times, ch 2, sl st to top of dc2tog (6 clusters)

Round 2: sl st to next ch-2 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in same sp, (ch 1, 5 dc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times, ch 1, sl st to BL. (30 dc, 6 ch)

Round 3: ch3, BLO dc in same st, BLO dc in next 3 sts, 2 BLO dc in next st, ch 1, *2 BLO dc in next dc, BLO dc in next 3 sts, 2 BLO dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * 4 more times (42 BLO dc, 6 ch)

Round 4:
If you are joining points, you will only need to a make one join at each point that touches
If you are joining sides, you will make three joins in each side that touch.

Points Join: Ch 1, sc 1 in same st, sc in next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next dc, sc into next 3 dc, (sc, ch 1, insert hook into ch-2 sp of other motif, sl st, sc) in next ch-1 sp; continue around motif as pattern, replacing ch 2 with (ch 1, hook through other motif ch sp sl st), where the points touch. sl st to 1st sc. (60 sc, ch/sl st count will vary depending on amount of joins)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sides Join: Ch 1, sc 1 in same st, sc in next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next dc, sc into next 3 dc, (sc, ch 1, insert hook into ch-2 sp of other motif, sl st, sc) in next ch-1 sp, sc into next 3 dc, (sc, ch 1, insert hook into ch-2 sp of other motif, sl st, sc) in next dc, sc into next 3 dc, (sc, ch 1, insert hook into ch-2 sp of one of the other motifs, sl st, sc) in next ch sp; continue around motif as pattern, replacing ch 2 with (ch 1, hook through other motif ch sp, sl st), where the two edges and centre chains touch. sl st to 1st sc. (60 sc ch/sl st count will vary depending on amount of joins)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
