Hello, Yarnies <3
In our eyes, Day One and Day Two of our Christmas-CAL were super successful! Our Yarnish Facebook Group is looking even more spectacular than usual, decorated with beautiful little socks and hanging stars.
Day Three is now upon us!
Let's see what we are making for Day Three:
🎵 On the third day of Christmas-CAL, Mrs Yarnish sent to me 🎵
Three hanging Bauble Stacks, by Mari Koeck of Gray Day Crochet.
These beautiful, yet classically simple, decorations are just perfect for any Christmas tree. However, in saying this, they also emit a whimsical, storybook vibe! Keep reading to find out why!
In this project, you will be working 'amigurumi-style' to create three round balls. They are made in three varying sizes and colours to give the stack personality as well as countless opportunities to customize. We cannot wait to see what you do to make this little stack your own!
I asked Mari some questions about her beautiful little Bauble Stack design processes and her treasured Christmas memories. Here's what she had to say:
When asked the inspiration behind her design, Mari said:
"How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I’m a Dr Seuss #superfan and my dream would be to deck the halls like the Whos down in Whoville... The bauble stack reminds me of bold and whimsical Seuss decor....If you’ve ever wanted to trim up your tree with whofoo fluff like the Whos down in Whoville, this bauble stack is for you! Three simple crochet balls are your baubles, stacked from small on the top to biggest on the bottom and finished off with a tassel for a bit of additional flair. When you gift these ornaments, everyone will know you’re definitely not a Grinch."
Mari shared some hot tips, for when working on her design:
"A smaller hook would work really well, but you can use what works for you. I went with a 3.5mm for consistency, but anything between 2.25mm and 3.5mm would work. Also - the bauble stack uses standard spheres. If you’ve got a preferred method, go with that - it won’t impact the construction."
She also wanted to share:
"Have fun and don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s your mistakes that make it a unique, handmade work of art. Also, with a Dr Seuss vibe, it’s more about going with the flow than striving for perfection."
When asked about her 'team', Mari certainly wasn't shy! Mari says she is Team Merry through-and-through:
"Bright? Bold? Over the top? I’m Merry all the way."
Mari also shared some of her most treasured Christmas traditions and memories:
We open a book or pjs on Christmas Eve and enjoy some quiet and cozy time to wind up the day... My grandmother was like Santa. Whenever she came to the house, presents suddenly appeared. It felt like magic. As an adult, it feels even more magical."
Thank you so much for sharing, Mari. It's so lovely getting to know Mari and all our designers.
We hope you enjoy this quirky design, we cannot wait to see how they 'stack up' in our Yarnish Community hehehe
Merry Yarning <3
